The Ministry...

I have two very different styles of ministry here in Kenya: Urban and Rural

Urban

The main point of the urban ministry in Kenya is to disciple believers and mobilize them for missions and evangelism. Kenya is quickly becoming more and more urban as people seek jobs in the cities. Most of the people in the cities of Kenya will call themselves Christians. It may be up to debate as to how many are truly born-again, but it is very clear that many people in the cities have heard the Gospel message at least once. So, instead of trying to start from scratch, it is easier to get those young Christians and help them grow and mature in their faith.

To do this, I teach Bible studies and lead seminars on how to live as a Christian. I have developed a "Christian Life and Witness" curriculum in which I teach believers how to live a productive, effective, and victorious Christian life.

But the thing I get most excited about is mobilizing believers in urban Kenya to go to the unreached areas of the country. There are still about 20 tribes in Kenya that are listed as unreached and some of them are only a few hours' drive from 'civilization.' It gets easy to forget that your own countrymen have never heard the gospel. So we take trips where we mobilze anywhere from 10 to 20 people to go out into the bush to do evangelism. Not only is the gospel spread, but people's eyes are opened to how God can use them and they come home with a new passion for serving God both in the city and the country.

Rural (the 'Bush')

The rural ministry is very much a pioneering ministry. There have been several places that we have targeted, but the majority of the work is in Samburu District. A district in northern Kenya where only about 3% of the people are Christians. Most of the people are nomadic. The climate is hot and dry. It is generally very tough ministry. Because it's so tough, that's why these areas are still unreached with the gospel.

Beginning last year, we have started work in a location called Nkiseu. Previous to our coming, no one had ever visited the area with the Gospel. In our initial campaign, we saw over 100 people make decisions to follow Christ. We have gone back several times for follow-up, but the ministry is not easy and the people are not quick to understand. So we have to take it slow and be very methodical in our ministry to them. But we know that God is moving in Samburu District and we have seen Him moving in Nkiseu.
